Give Your Log Home a New Coat of Protection
Once the wood has been cleaned, it’s ready for a new finish. Protecting your home’s exterior is as simple as 1, 2, 3! The products we use are nontoxic, nonflammable, and easy to clean up with soap and water.
We will apply a wood preservative that protects the wood’s surface and prevents against the invasion of termites, carpenter ants, wood-destroying beetles, and fungi that leads to wood decay.
After the preservation treatment has dried (about 2 to 3 days), we can apply the stain. (If you prefer not to stain the logs, we will move directly to Step 3: Seal.) The benefits of staining and sealing your log home are easy to see. This will:
- protect your home from UV and water damage
- protect your home from ugly mold and mildew
- make your home look like new, bringing out the beauty of the wood grain
Seal Log Ends
The final step—applying a special sealant to log ends—prevents moisture from getting into the end of the logs (the area most prone to drawing moisture into the log).
Your exterior is now finished and looks great! From here out, it should require very little maintenance beyond an annual cleaning (depending on your local weather conditions). Maintenance will keep your home looking good and will prevent the need for costly repairs due to log damage.
